The National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Leopoldina Academy Circle of Friends reg. ass.. and the weinberg campus e. V. once again invited guests to their joint annual reception.
The theme of the evening was: “Gravitational waves - from prediction to discovery”.
A musical opening was followed by two impulse lectures. Prof. Dr Jürgen Renn, member of the Leopoldina, Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin, spoke on “Gravitational waves and the chequered history of relativity”, Prof. Dr Karsten Danzmann, Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics, Hanover, on “Gravitational wave astronomy: we can hear the dark side of the universe.”
The following panel discussion was moderated by Prof. Dr Thomas Henning, member of the Leopoldina, Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, Heidelberg.
