Ceremony for the appointment of the National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina

The Leopoldina was officially appointed Germany's National Academy of Sciences on Monday the 14th of July 2008.

The appointment took place during a ceremony in Halle. As early as 1677, the Leopoldina was named an Imperial Academy of the Holy Roman Empire by Emperor Leopold I. and appointed the Leopoldina the Imperial Academy of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (Sacri Romani Imperii Academia Naturae Curiosorum).
